Marketing is a core management function
Marketing is the core function of any organisation, which enables it to define:
• the products/ services it should offer
• the audiences to whom it will appeal
• the most effective means of promoting the offering to those audiences
• an acceptable result for both the organisation and its audiences
A long established description of marketing is that it is all about getting the right product to the right person, at the right price, in the right place, at the right time. But whilst this is broadly true it is a fact that someone already supplies every market - and some markets are oversupplied.
So, nowadays the real key to success is to market 'smarter', profide definable added benefits, do it better - and do it better all the time. The overiding requirement is to view things from the customer's perspective - which doesn't seem difficult because we are all customers too. Nonetheless, forgetting it's all about the customer it is still a mistake that many companies make.
Our consultants have worked in and with small, medium and large private sector companies and public and 3rd sector organisations.
This wide ranging expertise has shown us that no strategy can be built upon flawed misconceptions. It has made us especially conscious of the need to ensure that decision making is based on customer input and on sound evidence and to be sure that this information is sufficient, thoroughly understood and properly incorporated into the evaluation and decision making process.
